PORT OF OAKLAND – OAKLAND AIRPORT POST-EARTHQUAKE RUNWAY REPAIRS

Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL), an Atlas company, mobilized its pavement management staff and provided analysis of existing pavement in the immediate aftermath of the October 1989 Loma Prieta magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

After early analysis, CEL provided round-the-clock inspections at the asphalt plant and in the field to get the runway operational, including field density and laboratory testing of various samples for oil content, gradation and compacted Marshall density results. CEL worked with the FAA to provide instant results for FAA review and approval in order to facilitate rapid opening of the runways.
